Spencer Evans
Originally from a small town in Ontario, Spencer spent seven years posted to Victoria with the Royal Canadian Navy before returning to Ontario to study history and political science at the University of Ottawa. After graduating from Queen’s Law in 2021, Spencer returned to Victoria to complete his articles with Crease Harman, and was called to the British Columbia bar in 2022.
While Spencer maintains a broad litigation practice, including commercial and construction disputes, and estate litigation, his passion for fighting against government overreach has drawn him particularly toward administrative and municipal law. He has represented clients in proceedings before the BC Supreme Court, Alberta Court of King’s Bench, and the Federal Court, as well as a number of tribunals and regulatory bodies, including the Victoria City Council, BC Human Rights Tribunal, Residential Tenancy Branch, College of Social Workers, Registrar of Mortgage Brokers, Financial Services Tribunal, and the Social Security Tribunal of Canada.
Spencer also maintains a residential real estate practice, and regularly advises homeowners on how to navigate the federal Underused Housing Tax, BC Speculation and Vacancy Tax, and Vancouver Empty Homes Tax. These laws often impose particularly harsh obligations on non-resident families and people who have relocated for work, and Spencer takes pride in doing everything he can to ease some of the anxiety that this can cause.
Always keen to explore new places and experience different cultures, Spencer has been to six of the seven continents, but Vancouver Island has always held a special place for him. He also enjoys reading classic novels and writing historical fiction.
